Mt. Yufudake, admired for its majestic beauty and affectionately referred to as “the Mt. Fuji of the Bungo region,” stands as the cherished symbol of Yufu City. At the foot of Mt. Yufudake lies Yufuin Onsen, a serene hot spring town without the bustling commercial districts typical of many such resorts. Its charm comes instead from the traditional inns that dot the pastoral landscape, creating a tranquil setting that continues to draw countless visitors.
The hot spring inn, Yufunoirodori Yadoya Oohashi, located a short 5-minute drive from Yufuin Station on the JR Kyudai Main Line, welcomes guests with 14 detached cottages arranged within a spacious 11,000-square-meter estate. A distinctive feature of the inn is that all guest rooms are exclusively for two adults. Another is that each room is equipped with both an open-air bath and an indoor bath fed directly from the Yufuin Onsen hot spring source. In addition, every room is uniquely decorated, earning high praise from repeat guests who remark that “staying in a different room feels like experiencing an entirely different inn.” During your stay, you may choose to unwind in a soothing hot spring bath or enjoy a leisurely walk through the garden, complete with a tranquil pond.
Yadoya Oohashi offers the standard Japanese hot spring inn accommodation plan—a one-night stay with two meals. *A room-only plan is also available. For dinner, you can enjoy either shabu-shabu or sukiyaki. *Please select when making your reservation. The shabu-shabu and sukiyaki are prepared using A5-grade Kuroge Wagyu beef, the highest grade under Japan’s beef rating system. As the photos show, the beef is beautifully marbled throughout, offering melt-in-your-mouth tenderness. For those tasting Japan’s finest Kuroge Wagyu beef for the first time, this extraordinary tenderness is sure to leave a lasting impression. A selection of wines, sake, shochu, and soft drinks is available to accompany your meal. Oita Prefecture is especially known for its many shochu distilleries, and the local shochu varieties are all highly recommended. The drink menus also feature kabosu (Citrus sphaerocarpa), a specialty of Oita Prefecture. Don’t miss the opportunity to try a refreshing kabosu sour or any of the other kabosu drinks. For breakfast, enjoy freshly cooked rice served with a Japanese-style set meal prepared using local ingredients. In winter, hearty dishes that warm the body are also served.
With the hope that every guest enjoys a stay that fulfills their wishes, the inn also offers “Omoi-gami,” unique slips of paper for guests to write out their personal wishes before dissolving them in water that has been prayed over at the nearby Unagihime Shrine. Just write out your wish and place it on the surface of the garden pond, and it will be sure to come true.
Pickup service is available from JR Yufuin Station. Be sure to inform the inn of your arrival time in advance, or make contact upon arriving at the station. *Please note that pickups are unavailable after 5:00 p.m., as dinner preparations begin at that time.
