Takimotokan Yuki no Sato is a small traditional hot spring inn with 11 guest rooms located within Yoro Park at the foot of Mount Yoro in southwestern Gifu Prefecture. It can be reached by train from JR Nagoya Station in approximately two hours by taking the Tokaido Main Line, then transferring to the Yoro Railway. By car, it takes approximately one hour from Nagoya City via the Meishin Expressway.
The inn nestles in the mountains, far away from the city, deep in the embrace of rich nature. Here, weeping cherry trees add vibrant colors in spring, while in summer negative ions promote relaxation and calm. Autumn brings a covering of red and yellow leaves, while in winter, red and pink camellia and sasanqua blossoms contrast beautifully against sparkling white snow.
Guests are requested to remove their shoes at the entrance on arrival at this traditional inn, which allows them to enjoy the comfort and pleasure of walking on tatami mats, even inside the elevator. After checking in, guests are served Japanese confectioneries and tea in the lobby, with its beautiful view.
Eight of the 11 guest rooms have their own open-air hot spring baths, allowing guests to enjoy a relaxing bath whenever they like, in their own private space. Guests can also use the communal bath and the panoramic hot spring bath that both offer sweeping views of the Nobi Plain. Guests can leisurely soak in the gentle waters of Yoro Hot Springs while enjoying the magnificent scenery as it changes from morning to afternoon, and into night.
Stays at many Japanese inns come with dinner and breakfast, and this accommodation is no exception. Takimotokan Yuki no Sato serves kaiseki cuisine for dinner, during which guests can sample a variety of dishes prepared with seasonal ingredients. As an option, there is also a set course meal featuring heritage wagyu beef from Gifu Prefecture, which is highly recommended. In the morning, guests can enjoy a traditional Japanese breakfast of freshly cooked rice with a selection of side dishes.
The impressive Yoro Waterfall, which has captivated people since ancient times, is just three minutes on foot from the inn. Thirty meters high and approximately 4 meters wide, it is still popular with tourists today and was selected for inclusion in the One Hundred Waterfalls of Japan. It is a soothing and revitalizing place where visitors can feel the power of the cascading water and the negative ions that are generated.
The Site of Reversible Destiny—Yoro Park, an interactive area conceptualized by world-famous artist Shusaku Arakawa and his partner, the poet Madeline Gins. The park offers a surreal experience where heaven and earth seem to reverse, putting one’s sense of balance to the test. Both Yoro Waterfall and the Site of Reversible Destiny—Yoro Park are highly recommended tourist attractions.
Takimotokan Yuki no Sato is an inn where guests can experience hospitality and an atmospheric stay imbued with the essence of Japan. It is an ideal place for a relaxing retreat over two or three nights.
