Kyoto Niku Kappou Miyata

Kuroge Wagyu (Japanese Black Beef) is one of Japan’s most renowned delicacies. It consistently ranks among the top foods visitors hope to try while in Japan. In many cases, it is enjoyed as steak or prepared yakiniku-style.

In line with Kyoto Niku Kappou Miyata’s commitment to serving only the choicest cuts, the restaurant makes use of Kuroge Wagyu Beef raised in Kyoto, which rivals other world-famous varieties like Kobe and Matsusaka Beef. Here, you can enjoy a course-style meal featuring a parade of dishes prepared using the refined techniques of traditional Japanese cuisine.

The chef began by learning the fundamentals of Japanese cuisine at a renowned hot spring inn, then went on to refine his skills at famous teppanyaki restaurants in Kobe and Kyoto to master the secrets of preparing delicious meat. He eventually opened his own restaurant out of a desire to serve beef dishes crafted using the techniques of traditional Japanese cuisine. The restaurant operates in a traditional Kyoto-style townhouse built in 1890. The interior has been renovated while preserving the original pillars and beams, enabling the building to retain its traditional charm. It offers twelve counter seats arranged around the open kitchen, for an intimate and engaging dining experience. You can savor each of the dishes as they are served one after another, all while watching the chef prepare the next delicacy in line right in front of you.

The individual dishes that compose the course are entirely left to the chef’s expert discretion. Each course begins with an appetizer featuring Kuroge Wagyu Beef, followed by a soup that harmoniously blends Japanese soup stock with the umami flavor of beef, along with Chateaubriand grilled over high-grade charcoal, beef cutlets, and rice cooked in a clay pot together with beef. Among the many delicacies, the beef sandwiches served with tartar sauce made using shibazuke pickles are especially popular. You can also choose from among a wide selection of drinks to enjoy alongside your meal, including wine from Kyoto, Japanese whiskey, and shochu.

The restaurant is a short 8-minute walk north from Kyoto Station, and stands just west of Higashi Hongan-ji Temple. It is tucked away down a narrow alley between two houses that is just wide enough for a single person to pass through. Look for the lantern at the entrance—a helpful landmark to guide your way.

While Kuroge Wagyu Beef is of course delicious as steak or yakiniku, Kyoto Niku Kappou Miyata offers a more refined and creative approach to enjoying this prized beef. The diverse lineup of Kuroge Wagyu Beef dishes here is sure to become a memorable part of your trip—and a story worth sharing.
