Japanese Cuisine Washoku Matoi

Ginza’s Namiki Street is lined with some of the world’s top fashion houses. In the sublevel of a corner building standing alongside this renowned street is the traditional Japanese restaurant, Matoi Ginza. Here, you can savor brand-name Wagyu beef in a variety of dishes, all while enjoying an exquisitely refined and luxurious setting. As the elevator doors open, you are welcomed into an entrance hall adorned with a magnificent bonsai tree over 200 years old and seasonal flowers—marking the beginning of an extraordinary experience far removed from the bustle of Ginza above.

The interior walls are finished in stately Oya stone and plasterwork, with traditional Japanese architectural elements woven throughout the design. Meticulously chosen furnishings and the striking 10-meter-long solid wood counter evoke the Japanese aesthetic of wabi sabi, or finding beauty in the transient and imperfect.

The menu focuses on Wagyu beef cuisine, with courses that showcase Kobe, Matsusaka, Yonezawa, and other premium beef brands carefully selected from across Japan and crafted into a variety of traditional Japanese dishes. Courses also include dishes incorporating the finest seasonal ingredients, such as freshly landed seafood from across Japan, matsutake mushrooms, and hana-sansho peppers. At this restaurant, you can delight in the seasonal flavors of Japan, artfully presented in thoughtfully chosen tableware.

Among the highlights are signature dishes that continue to draw guests to the restaurant: Chateaubriand cutlet sandwiches, steak grilled over high-grade charcoal from Kishu, and shabu-shabu paired with seasonal vegetables. Japanese delicacies—such as thinly sliced wild tiger pufferfish and, in crab season, hairy crab served in its shell—further enrich the courses with seasonal elegance. From the counter seats, you can enjoy your meal while watching master chefs skillfully prepare each dish with perfect economy of motion. The restaurant also boasts a collection of over 400 wines, primarily from Burgundy, along with rare Japanese sake such as Juyondai and Aramasa, allowing it to offer the perfect pairing to enhance your dining experience.

Savor exquisite cuisine, fine sake, and the very essence of Japan’s four seasons, all in an elegant setting. This, and the staff’s heartfelt hospitality, is sure to make your visit an extraordinary dining experience. At Matoi Ginza, located in Ginza—one of Japan’s most glamorous and exclusive districts—you can enjoy world-renowned Wagyu beef in a traditional Japanese style. Celebrated for offering “the finest flavors from Japan today,” it attracts visitors from around the world. English-speaking staff members are also available to make your visit even more convenient.

Reservations can be made via TableCheck or by telephone. Useful landmarks to help you find the restaurant are a Grand Seiko watch boutique on the 1st floor of the building, which includes the restaurant and the Hyatt Centric Ginza Tokyo, which stands next door.
