Aujeuan

French-style eatery Aujeuan is a sister restaurant to the famous sukiyaki restaurant Mishima Tei. It is located in a Kyoto-style townhouse that was built more than 170 years ago, making it special even within Kyoto. There is still a well on the premises, adding to an atmosphere of being far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city. The distinctive building, with its beautiful, carefully-tended garden and scrolls and flowers decorating the traditional tokonoma alcoves, shows just how much care is put into hospitality for each guest. This is a restaurant for people who understand and enjoy quality, gourmet dining, and fine drinks.

The menu is an “omakase” course, chosen by the chef, and features charcoal-grilled aged Japanese Black wagyu steak from Mishima Tei, as well as other ingredients mainly from Kyoto. As is typical in Japanese cuisine, dishes are prepared using dashi stock, creating a blend of Japanese and European culinary techniques. The meals are beautifully presented, pleasing the eye even before the palate. The fine steaks bring together the unique aroma of a charcoal grill and the umami of meat. Carefully-selected wines are on offer to highlight dishes and further elevate the dining experience.

A reservation is required to dine at Aujeuan, which can be made by phone. The dress code is smart casual.
