Located on the west bank of the Kamo River midway between Nijo-ohashi and Sanjo-ohashi bridges, Shukubo KANETSUNE is a temple lodging within the private grounds of Kosei-in Temple. The temple is registered as a cultural asset of Kyoto City, and the beautiful garden with its charming pond as an outstanding garden. The water that fills the pond is drawn directly from the nearby Takase River and then flows back into it.
Guest accommodations at a Japanese temple or shrine are called “shukubo.” Shukubo KANETSUNE is a private villa with a beautiful traditional Japanese garden. Despite its central location amid the hustle and bustle of Kyoto’s streets, it offers a peaceful world apart–a place where guests can enjoy complete privacy and solitude.
It is a two-story building with a modern interior design. The first floor has a kitchen, dining room, and living room, while the second has a bathroom with a bathtub, a Japanese-style room, and a Western-style room with a shower room. Up to five guests can stay, making it perfect for families or groups. The interior also features charming antique furniture and fittings.
Meals are not included in a standard stay, but guests can bring ingredients to prepare themselves using the property’s kitchen or dine at a local restaurant of their choosing. If guests make a reservation that includes meals from the on-site dining facility, Zikido ICHUFUNE, dinner and breakfast will be provided. Alternatively, Zikido ICHUFUNE also has full-scale commercial kitchen facilities available for use, so guests can even bring a personal chef to prepare meals during their stay. Guests interested in doing so should make a reservation directly with Zikido ICHUFUNE.
Zikido ICHUFUNE also hosts authentic cultural experiences, such as calligraphy and traditional incense appreciation, between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Guests may reserve these before or during their stay.
Right next to Shukubo KANETSUNE is the Hotel Okura Kyoto, which is itself a convenient hub for Kyoto sightseeing. Shukubo KANETSUNE offers an extraordinary and unique stay, unlike any other hotel, ryokan, or Kyoto machiya townhouse.
