RETOUR KYOTO

Visitors to Kyoto often choose to immerse themselves in the city’s history and culture by exploring temples and shrines, and by enjoying authentic Japanese cuisine at traditional restaurants. But RETOUR KYOTO, a glamping site in the northern part of the city, presents a Kyoto unfamiliar to many visitors from overseas. Guests can even bathe in the beautiful Oi River that flows close by the glamping site.

Facilities include three villas that accommodate up to five guests each and one lodge that accommodates up to four guests and is perfect for couples, families, or groups of friends. Each has a barbecue grill and kitchen, and guests can bring their own ingredients. However, guests choosing to use those provided by RETOUR KYOTO can experience the most distinctive aspect of this luxury glamping experience—grilling and enjoying luxurious, gourmet ingredients surrounded by beautiful nature.

Dinner options include the highest quality Kameoka beef raised in western Kyoto City, sirloin steak and eel from the famous Nishiki Market known as “Kyoto’s kitchen”, and miso and rice from a renowned Japanese restaurant. In fact, if eaten at a restaurant, these ingredients might well exceed the cost of the accommodation!

RETOUR KYOTO is located in Kyoto’s Keihoku area, which, during the Heian period (794–1185), was protected as a site to produce timber for temples and shrines. The timber was transported down the Oi River as far as Osaka. A 15-minute drive northward from RETOUR KYOTO takes the visitor to an area of enormous trees, including centuries-old Japanese cedar. Winter brings heavy snow to this region, and over the years its weight has twisted the trees into unique and atmospheric shapes.

RETOUR KYOTO is approximately 47 km from Kyoto Station and takes about one hour and 20 minutes to reach by taxi. The glamping site presents a Kyoto unfamiliar to many visitors from overseas.
