Kamikochi, located in Nagano Prefecture, is a popular tourist destination that attracts over 1.2 million foreign visitors annually. This scenic area features the iconic Kappa Bridge, a suspension bridge over clear, flowing water, and the enchanting Taisho Pond, where the Hotaka Mountain Range is beautifully reflected on the surface. Kamikochi is designated a Special Place of Scenic Beauty, comparable to a national treasure. Due to regulations protecting the natural environment, the area cannot be reached by private vehicles.
Tourists who visit by car can travel as far as Sawando Onsen Yunosato Park, which is about 8 kilometers away from Taisho Pond. From there, visitors may travel to Taisho Pond and Kappa Bridge on a shuttle bus that runs every 30 minutes.
Keiryuso SIORIE is located just next to Sawando Onsen Yunosato Park. This cozy hot spring inn features eight guest rooms.
Guests can enjoy the waters of Sawando Hot Spring at both the large open-air cave bath and the tatami bath that can be reserved for private use. Additionally, four rooms on the first floor each have a private open-air bath, and two rooms on the second floor each have a private footbath on the terrace. Guests staying on the second floor bathe in the large open-air cave bath and the tatami bath.
Dinner features decadent kaiseki cuisine made with local ingredients. Choose your main dish from four options: Shinshu beef, Azumino-raised pork, shrimp and scallops, or, for an additional fee, premium Hida beef. Please select your main dish when making your reservation.
In April and August, a limited number of bottles of Kido wine from a winery in Shiojiri City (Nagano Prefecture) are available to guests. We highly recommend this remarkable wine, which is normally difficult to find or purchase.
Breakfast is prepared in a traditional Japanese style—white rice cooked in a clay pot with miso soup and side dishes.
You can take your time enjoying dinner and breakfast in the semi-private dining rooms.
Next to the inn is a large parking lot. During the summer season, it becomes lively and bustling with visitors parking their cars on the way to Kamikochi. However, it is very quiet during winter, when the roads leading to Kamikochi are closed.
This area tends to get a lot of snow, so guests are welcome to build snowmen in the large parking lot or otherwise enjoy the outdoor winter wonderland.
Sawando Bus Terminal, where buses depart for Kamikochi, is a 5-minute walk from the inn. It takes 30 minutes by bus to the final stop, Kamikochi Bus Terminal. Staying at SIORIE overnight makes it very convenient to catch the first bus in the morning to Taisho Pond and Kappa Bridge.
Sawando Bus Terminal also has direct buses to Matsumoto City (Nagano Prefecture) and Hida Takayama (Gifu Prefecture), so visitors can also reach those areas easily.
Please come visit SIORIE, whether to explore Kamikochi or to fully enjoy a quiet, snowy winter.
