In the far north Japanese prefecture of Aomori is a cake shop that once sold 350,000 of its legendary cheesecakes in just four days. There are three “Cake House Arpajon” shops in the Aomori Prefecture city of Hachinohe, as well as shops in Shin-Aomori Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen Line and in Shopping Town Sunroad Aomori. Hachinohe is a port town that looks out over the Pacific Ocean, and is approximately 2 hours 40 minutes from Tokyo Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen.
Cake House Arpajon was opened in 1992 by owner-pâtissier Kazuharu Matsusaka, who trained in Tokyo and France. His aim was to set up a shop strongly rooted in the local area. One of his creations, Asa no Hakkoda, a cheesecake in a cup, proved a massive hit, making Cake House Arpajon famous across Japan.
Thanks in part to its cool climate, Aomori Prefecture has a thriving dairy industry. Asa no Hakkoda contains fresh eggs, milk, and butter sourced locally within Aomori Prefecture, as well as a generous amount of cheese from Australia and France. It has a rich cheese aroma and a melt-in-the-mouth texture. And its taste? In a word…”moreish.”
Arpajon’s sweets are often served as special treats in exclusive settings, for example, to passengers in first-class cabins on JAL’s international flights or in the VIP rooms of casinos in Macau. They have been exported to Taiwan, China, Hong Kong, the U.S., Indonesia, and Vietnam. The shop can also meet private orders from overseas, shipping its products to customers who seek delicious Japanese sweets for special events and occasions. Those interested should contact the company directly.
The three Arpajon shops in Hachinohe have striking shop fronts that wouldn’t look out of place in a picture book. Visitors can stop by to choose from a wide range of delectable cakes and, of course, the legendary Asa no Hakkoda cheesecakes. Baked confections and products such as Brownie, Aomori Rougea, Grandvoyage Orange, and Minohodoshirazu Chocosenbei also make perfect souvenirs.
Arpajon brings happiness to people all over the world through its confections.
